The young publishing house ‘Bananafish’ is dedicated to the beautiful task to release classical and contemporary literature, of which the founders are very surprised about the fact – although absolute best sellers or real classics – never published a Dutch translation. Therefore the company statement: ‘Bananafish – Oddly enough never translated’. Studio Laucke Siebein was commissioned for the Bananafish corporate identity, as well as the design of the first series of books.
Perhaps the most bizarre and remarkable book Bananafish will publish in it’s first year, is Alfred Jarry’s novel ‘Doctor Faustroll’. Entire title: ‘Exploits and Opinions of Dr. Faustroll, Pataphysician, neoscientific novel’. A text of only 110 pages. The rest of the 368-page book is filled with explanatory texts and a profound part of notes. Who needs such a thing published, run the risk to go by the name ‘nerd’. To avoid such a disqualification the jocular publisher name ‘Bananafish’ is selected. Refer to such a name, we designed a logo that highlights this expression.
The first publication of the young publishing house’s catalog itself. At 358 pages the first eight books will be discussed, presented in excerpts and offered to the booksellers. Thus, this catalogue rise above the usual leaflets and brochures, and becomes a book about books. All this of course entirely in the ‘Style’ of Bananafish.
