Studio Laucke Siebein was commissioned by Multi-M Retail Concepts to develop an idea for a franchise chain of Asian grocery stores. This idea was to fill the gap between the often confusing and chaotic Asian shops on the one side, and supermarkets with their often meagre assortments on the other. Sought after therefore was a clear selection of Asian A-brands in a welcoming and clean environment. Studio Laucke Siebein selected the name ‘Tampopo’, taken from the title of a film by Jûzô Itami. In the film, the search for perfection and the enchantment of the senses, is described while eating, thus representing the core values of the chain perfectly.
For the interior design we commissioned the Dutch designer Bas van Tol, and for the creation of the ‘backend’ (back office, purchasing, logistics and processes) the Dutch company Being Served
Tampopo was honoured with the Dutch Design Award, the Dutch Corporate Identity Prize and also mentioned in a large number of publications. Interview Design/Taste
